The Cardigans & Sweaters bench

Every piece on this bench exists because indoor air conditioning does not care what the weather is doing. A Halife layer is meant to be carried more than worn: light enough to fold into a bag, long enough to cover what a sleeveless dress leaves out, open at the front so it goes on without touching a hairstyle.

The dusters are the long ones, falling past the hip and often below the knee, and they change the line of an outfit more than any other layer here. The cropped ones stop at the waist and are the ones that work over a dress without cutting it in half. In between sit the everyday button-ups and the pocketed knits people wear five days a week.

Weight is the fact that decides. These are summer-weight knits, not winter sweaters, and the page says when a piece is heavier than the rest.

How it fits

Cardigans are cut to layer, so they run generous through the shoulder and the sleeve. Take your usual size for an open front, and go up one only if you intend to close it over a thick top.

What it does not do. A summer cardigan is not a coat. It cuts a draught and takes the chill off an office, and it will not do anything for you below fifty degrees outdoors.
